we have 5 new performance and gallery venues that have opened in the past year with 4 more in the pipeline including act's renovation of the strand theater that they will renovate into a 300-seat theater. we have 8 new small businesses that opened up in the past year in mid-market as well as two expansions of existing storefront businesses and more are on the way. in central market and throughout the city, san francisco has created an environment that embraces and celebrates innovation. innovation is not a significant driver of economic growth, but it enables us to tackle some of the most long-standing problems and historic challenges that we face. that's why i continue to support and promote innovation in both the civic and private sectors to create a better san francisco. and with all of these technology companies that are moving into the city, we need to make sure that our work force is trained and ready to fill these positions. to do this we have launched tech sf with an $8 million dollar grant from the department of labor that will provided case, training and job placement assistance
